Cold and snowy evening warns of October weather
Last night brought snow sleet and freezing rain with a low of 29 as County Extension Agent Jerry Long and Ray Diederich note a widespread freeze. They report spotty precipitation, nonuniform snowfall, and less than half an inch of accumulation as cabbage and turnip crops brace for the end of the growing season.

Medical board vote sets schedule on Faymore license case
A State Medical Board hearing officer recommends revoking Dr. Leonard Faymore’s medical license for improper dispensing of dangerous drugs at Doctors Clinic in Eaton Township and Greenwich Clinic in Huron County. The board must approve the decision by its Nov. 4 meeting after Faymore, awaiting final action, contests parts of the ruling.

Fined Canadian fishermen face hefty Ohio penalties
In Vermilion Ohio Division of Wildlife action a 54 foot Canadian fishing boat named Cliffside and eight fishermen were seized on July 13. The owner Jaoa Figuiera faced a $5000 fine plus court costs while the crew paid $400 each and equal court costs. Judge David L Daley rejected outright forfeiture of the boat as a nuisance but deemed it tied to illegal fishing. The nets valued at 7000 and the catch valued at 1500 were not forfeited. Prosecution urged forfeiture as a deterrent while defense argued the remedy is damages for unlawful taking of game. The incident has heightened tensions between Canadian and Ohio authorities with Canada reporting its own seizures of U S boats.
