GM earnings beat expectations on solid North America results
GM posted 1.4 billion in Q3 profit 1.50 per share beating estimates as North America profit offset weaker China and losses in Europe and South America. Revenue fell 1 percent to 38.8 billion while North America pre tax income rose to 3.3 billion.

Duke Energy Ohio settles class action over Ohio contracts
The case alleges former subsidiary benefits to large industrial and business customers. Duke and Duke Energy Ohio settled to avoid litigation costs and possible adverse verdict. Up to 25 million to residential customers, up to 25 million to non residential customers for 2005 08 period, plus 8 million for energy programs and plaintiffs legal fees. Settlement requires federal court approval in southern Ohio.
