Elyria GM Accord Reached Ends 19 Day Strike Vote Tomorrow
Local 780 of the United Auto Workers will vote tomorrow at 2 p.m. on ratifying a new contract with General Motors at Elyria Brown-Lipe-Chapin Division. About 60 production workers had been on strike since October 2 over local issues. The nationwide UAW GM deal on October 2 ended a shorter strike. Pickets stay on duty until ratification. Management called the agreement fair and equitable and said recalls will be by shifts after ratification. Local issues settled include seniority wage inequities job classification overtime equalization shift preference and wage rules plus 31 grievances built up since May 1979 were settled or withdrawn.

Elephant in Bar Stuns Chesterfield Patrons
In Chesterfield England a Burmese elephant weighing about a ton and eighty years old wandered into the Portland Hotel bar. Trainer Gesta Krase said she loves beer and often drinks it at the circus. The elephant sat at a table and drank a pint, while bar customers reacted with surprise and some may have sworn off drinking. The incident marked the first time Juse had taken the animal into a public house.
