New Hospital Administrator Named for Elyria Memorial
F A Smythe president of Elyria Memorial Hospital announces Edward A Hudson will begin as administrator director on November first. Hudson comes from El Paso Texas where he led Masonic Hospital and plans to relocate quickly with his wife and four year old daughter. He studied at Royal Albert Memorial College Exeter England post graduate work at University of Chicago and University of Kentucky. He trained in bacteriology, completed a three year internship in hospital administration at Goldsboro Hospital North Carolina. Since 1922 he has worked in hospitals and helped build three new ones including Waynesboro Virginia’s Waynesboro Community Hospital. He has led positions at Gilman Illinois Lee Memorial Florida Hickory Memorial North Carolina and earned memberships in multiple professional societies.

Fred C. Ruth, clerk for the board of county commissioners, underwent operative treatment at Elyria Memorial Hospital this morning for an illness that took an acute turn last night. Family reports indicate the illness is serious but not dangerous and that the operation is being performed under favorable circumstances. Ruth had carried out his duties normally yesterday and was not taken to the hospital until last evening.

Tragedies Of The Sea Revealed On American Ship Arrival
The American freighter Independence Hall docked at Bordeaux with 284 survivors from two torpedoed British ships, the Yorkshire and City of Mandalay. The Oberlin College Freshmen abducted Stanley Bennett, president of the sophomore class from Maumee Ohio, held him on the top floor of the Men's Building overnight. Sophomores stormed the dorm but could not break in as barricades blocked doors and windows. Bennett was fed and allowed to study until he was released at 1 30 a.m. The freshmen claimed a moral victory over the pursuing sophomores.

Elyria Woman Is Killed By Automobile
Miss Ernestina Bielefeldt, 78, of 355 Tenth Street, was struck by a car on Middle Avenue at Howe Street and died at Elyria Memorial Hospital. The driver, Hugh Greer of 203 Princeton Avenue, was en route to a football game. Funeral services will be at Nichols Funeral Home Monday at 1:30 PM and at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 2 PM. Burial in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Surviving are sister Mrs. Sophia Ehrke and sister Mrs. Rika Sanders, plus brother Carl, six nieces, and four nephews.

Five hundred new and renewed memberships in the Elyria Y. M. C. A. were reported by workers in the association's annual campaign as they made final reports last night. Accidental Gunshot Fatality Linked to Columbia Station Man
Lawrence Patterson 23 of Columbia Station Route 82 died after an accidental discharge of a .22 rifle while shooting rats in his father’s granary. He died at Elyria Memorial Hospital at 8 a.m. today. Patterson, born in East Liverpool, lived in Lorain County most of his life, attended Eaton High School, and worked at Elderread Tire and Supply Co. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church. Survived by his parents and a brother Phillip of Columbia Station. Funeral arrangements include Bittner Funeral Home and McLain Funeral Home services set for 3 p.m. Monday in Wellsville.
