Ten Lorain County men were inducted into the U S Army on Oct. 9 per Lorain County Draft Board No 72 clerk Miss Catherine McKee. Three additional vandalism reports came in Saturday night. Anna Koepke of Maddock road said a 12 foot fence rail smashed her storm door glass. Wade Honey of Chestnut Ridge road reported theft of fender guides and a rear view mirror from his parked car near the Ridgeville Grange Hall. Two bicycles stolen from a yard on Frabotta were recovered in a ditch near the Grange hall.

Fire causes 800 damage at Zeller home and car blaze
An estimated 800 damage occurred at the home of Charles Zeller Jr. at 236 Bell Avenue after a smoker's carelessness ignited a couch. Firemen controlled the blaze in 40 minutes with fog nozzles. A second fire in a New York Central cooking car near the station at 6 30 am started by an overheated stove, taking 40 minutes to subdue.

Jefferson School Addition Open House Draws Hundreds
Close to 500 parents and friends attended the Jefferson School open house yesterday. The event opened with a 2:30 tour of the building and a welcome from Principal Walter Adler, followed by a program by eighth grade music students led by Virginia McKee and Barbara Shoemaker. Visitors viewed the new stage in the gym and four additional classrooms, a PTA kitchen and community room, remodeled shower and locker rooms, kindergarten facilities, arts and crafts, refreshed lighting and acoustics, and a new boiler and heating system. The school now serves kindergarten through eighth grade in 15 homerooms with up to date facilities for arts, library and special subjects.

Car Demolished in Gulf Road Crash Injuring Two
Alfred Morse of 253 Hawthorne Street drove off the highway in front of 950 Gulf road. His car hit a tree and mailboxes at 947 Gulf road, injuring Morse and passenger Mrs. Maxine McDowell of 807 Middle Avenue. Morse faced charges of reckless operation. Both were treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital for cuts and bruises.

Farmyard accident ends veteran Republican voter's life
Daniel Fitch, a 96 year old Republican voter who supported Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876, died after breaking a leg while collecting eggs at his farm. He passed away at Lakewood Hospital after being treated for the injury. Born to Edward and Eliza Fitch, he lived on Avon Belden road and later with his daughter’s family at 30950 Center Ridge road. His wife Elizabeth Fitch had died in 1951.
