Greater Lorain County Fund drives fourth annual luncheon

More than 150 volunteers attended the luncheon funded by donations from local businesses and unions. Jones praised the 1970 campaign as the fourth annual and hoped it would be the most successful in the fund’s history. William Humphries of WEOL Radio Elyria was master of ceremonies, noting the United Fund’s growth since the 1920s.

Quebec police may find hideout in FLQ kidnapping case

Police believe they found the hideout where Laporte was held in St Hubert near Montreal after army experts cleared a frame bungalow. Det Sgt Lisacek said Laporte was held there. his body was found nearby in the trunk of a car. Police broadened the manhunt for FLQ suspects Rose and Carbonneau amid warrants for the taxi driver and schoolteacher.

First arrests in Kent State riot indictments

A Kent State sociology professor and a former student jailed on narcotics charges were among the first indicted by a special grand jury probing May campus rioting. Dr. Thomas S. Lough surrendered in Ravenna. Richard C. Felber was also charged with riot and related counts.

Nixon Stumps Ohio For Taft Cloud In Large Rally

President Nixon endorsed the Republican ticket at a Columbus rally for Taft and Cloud before about 45 000 spectators. He praised the candidates as highly qualified and urged unity while security remained tight around the statehouse. Protests occurred outside with about 500 marching from Ohio State University and anti Nixon signs present in the crowd.

Two C T Staffers Win Photo Awards

Chronicle Telegram photographer John Kenney and reporter photographer Karel Neikirk were cited in the Inland Daily Press Association contest held in Chicago. Kenney won first prize in the picture series for his entry Do You Hear the Sound in the 30,000 and under circulation category.

Photographers win awards at press association meeting

A CT Family Features photo page from Dec 14 1969 highlights six Crestwood School deaf children in Elyria preschool class recognizing sounds. Neikirk won third in spot news for a Kent State guardsman image after the May 4 1970 shootings. The contest awarded 37 photojournalists from over 240 entries across 18 states.
