Unemployment aid claims fall but distorted by shutdown
U S unemployment benefits applications dropped 15 000 to 358 000 last week though California backlogs and the 16 day partial shutdown distort the figure. The four week average rose to 336 500 while mortgage rates edged higher as lawmakers reached a debt deal and the Treasury prepared to reopen the government. Freddie Mac says the 30 year rate at 4.28 percent and the 15 year at 3.33 percent.
