Pioneers Rally For Victory Over Fremont In Elyria

Elyria’s Pioneers defeated Fremont 24 20 at Ely Stadium to snap a drought since 1348. Ross’s aerial attack had Fremont up 28 10 late in the game led by Terry Collins who connected with Mike McCarthy and Jim Otermat but Elyria’s Bill Minkowski, Maurice Gnepper and Jim Streeter limited the final surge. Minkowski’s late kickoffs and a key interception by Minkowski helped seal the win as Elyria overcame injuries to Dick Smallwood and Jim Comarst.

Fremont and Elyria clash in high‑scoring Buckeye tilt

Fremont coach Mal Mackey adjusted the spread for Elyria in a two‑halves battle that left Fremont outscored 62‑8 in final periods. Collins and Otermat connected for a 12 yard score, but an interception and late Fremont surge couldn’t overturn the Pioneer comeback as Elyria claimed a pivotal conference result.
