Dayan a complex soldier statesman and icon
Moshe Dayan, famed for the black eye patch, rose from Haganah scout to defense minister and foreign minister in Israel. A polarizing figure, he shaped battles in 1956 and 1967, split from Mapai to form Telem, and helped negotiate early Camp David era policy while clashing with Begin over Palestinian autonomy. Born 1915, Dayan faced health and political trials, including eye injury, cancer surgery, and a shifting career that defined Israeli defense and diplomacy.
