Missing plane carrying Hale Boggs pursued as severe weather bears down

An Alaska coast search continues for a Cessna 310 with Hale Boggs and four others after takeoff from Anchorage went missing en route to Juneau. An HC130 rescue plane worked through the night amid strong winds and heavy overcast as FAA and Air Force crews tracked the 560 mile flight.

Juvenile Burglary Ring Nabs Three in Elyria

Elyria police report a juvenile burglary ring with three arrests for at least 25 break-ins on the west side. A youth claimed he and two companions stole about $1,000 in old coins and admitted burglaries from homes, a church, a tavern area, and apartments, with many entries listed by date and location.

Lorain approves 5.2 million downtown renewal project

Lorain City Council approved a 5.2 million urban renewal plan to redevelop downtown Lorain. The project will tap nearly 3.5 million from the federal government with the city providing 1.7 million in cash credits from the new city hall construction. Land acquisition may start in April with 56 properties targeted over 10 months across 17 acres from Broadway to Washington and First to Fourth Streets, to be sold to developers under renewal guidelines.

County to add fifth floor to Lorain County building

Lorain County commissioners announced today that the administration building, under construction for four floors at an original cost of 3.3 million, can add a fifth floor within the budget. Bids for four floors ran about 2.8 million. The fifth floor will house the Domestic relations court and a second judge may be needed soon. A bid advertisement date has been set.

Subpoenas Issued in New York Organized Crime Probe

Brooklyn District Attorney Eugene Gold announced a dragnet targeting organized crime with more than 600 subpoenas. A 40 by 15 foot trailer in Brooklyn served as alleged operations hub with telephones bugged last April and guarded by dogs.
