Officials weigh lowering several railroad grade crossings
Federal state and local representatives met with Army Corps of Engineers and railroad officials to review a plan to eliminate three to four grade crossings. No cost estimates were discussed. The proposal includes raising the Nickel Plate Railroad bridge by 10 feet to make way for overpasses at Broadway Colorado Reid and possibly Kansas Aves.

Two Injured In Pursuit Crash In Lorain
A car fleeing police crashed into a tree near 645 West 25th Street in Lorain injuring two people. Paul Thompson, 26, and Arlene Murphy, 18, were hospitalized with facial and chest injuries and extensive facial lacerations respectively. The driver faced a stop sign violation charge.

Lorain Police Arrests On Breakin And Entering Warrants
Lorain police and railroad officers arrested Patrick Tavis at his Cromwell Avenue home on a Lucas County warrant charging breaking and entering and petty larceny. James Beresh, 68, of East 30th Street, was charged with two counts of felonious assault involving a 12 and a 16 year old, and will appear in court October 30.

Sunsite Manor housing bids reviewed by Lorain agency
Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority will meet the week of Oct 27 to act on eight bids for the Sunsite Manor project. The Gene Resar Company of Elyria submitted the apparent low bid at 127,697 against an estimated project cost of 125,000. The 12 unit complex will be built on the northwest corner of Reeves Ave and West 2nd Street to house pensioners and their families.
