Ship Sinks Near Lorain. Skipper Drowns as 20 Saved
A 164-foot sandsucking ship named Joan McKerchey sank about 2 1/2 miles west of Lorain harbor in Lake Erie. Captain Horace Johnson of Monroe, Michigan, drowned. 20 crew were rescued by the Coast Guard. Five crewmen were hospitalized. investigation to follow. The Kelley Island Lime & Transportation Co. owned the vessel returning from pumping grounds six miles from Lorain. The ship lost water, listed, and sank without a radio.

Four Elyria Boys Escape From Missouri Jail
Four Elyria youths under 17 escaped from the Waynesville Missouri jail Saturday night. They admitted 20 thefts across Ohio Illinois West Virginia and Missouri. After fleeing they rode in a Waynesville car then abandoned it at Stanton and stole a second vehicle. Last seen near St Louis they tried to sell a wheel and tire for gas.

Man and Wife Given Jail Terms for Shoplifting
James Johnson and his wife Laura were each fined 10 dollars plus costs and sentenced to ten days in county jail after being arraigned before Mayor Henry W. Ault on shoplifting charges. Johnson was caught taking a 5 dollar sweater at Grant's. a locker key and stolen goods from Grant's and Woolworth's were found in their possession. Pollution survey finds many Lake Erie beaches polluted

Three Accidents Reported To State Patrol In Lorain
State Highway Patrol logged three weekend crashes around Lorain. Virginia Tobin, 20, of Marion was slightly injured when her car collided with Virginia Snider and Adam Moeller at Routes 234 and 37. Expinoza fled the scene after a collision at Route 611 and 38, later abandoning his overheated car and his license. Frank Hunads and David Hill were involved in a Route 38 crash south of Lorain. Wage Increases At Colson Co Effective Today
Dale Maddock of the Federal Labor Union Local 19343 announced that Colson Co reached a wage settlement. Production workers gain five cents per hour and non production workers eight cents per hour. Traffic Accidents Fatal To 8 In Ohio
