Kick Off Meeting Opens Elyria Community Chest Drive
Elyria marks the 34th annual Community Chest drive aiming for a $107 850 goal the largest peacetime target. The 8 30 p.m. kickoff at Elyria High School auditorium gathers over 1 000 volunteers with Linn Sheldon and W D Duke Lidyard as hosts and Earl Fauver in charge. The drive supports 15 Red Feather services and runs through Tuesday October 24 with a victory luncheon at the YMC A and Rotary gathering notes.

Elyria League of Women Voters schedules a candidates meeting October 18 at 7 30 p m in the courthouse. A nonpartisan event will showcase the Voter Service program with candidates for state secretary state senator supreme court chief justice and congressional and county offices. The meeting includes Q A on civil service mental hygiene and juvenile detention and voting helps on ballots absentee ballots and voting machines. Representatives from Elyria High School political science classes will attend with cooperation from local party organizations and election officials. The program opens with student music, a brief invocation, and color guard.
