County Home Rule Amendment A Major Issue Before Voters
The Ohio public debates the County Home Rule Amendment at the November 7 election. Backers led by Newton Baker, W C Thompson, and Charles Taft push county government reorganization to cut costs, allow optional plans, and unify county functions while not altering schools or legal boundaries. Opponents warn it could curb local self government, enable annexations, abolish parties, and raise taxes by creating diverse county structures.
