Evacuation planned for South Pole engineer

A cargo plane arrived at a base in Antarctica to evacuate Renee- Nicole Douceur, a Raytheon Polar Services manager at the South Pole research station. She has had vision and memory issues possibly linked to a tumor and previously weather-delayed evacuation requests.

Double Hand Transplant Reaches Patient in Boston

Richard Mangino of Revere received a bilateral hand transplant at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after sepsis left him with no arms below the elbows and no legs below the knees. A team of over 40 surgical staff worked more than 12 hours, with recovery of sensation expected to take months. The donor's identity was not released. The hospital has previously performed single hand transplants and this marks a first for a double transplant here.
