Two Lorain youths, Robert Waitfield and John Gregory, both 18, were sentenced to Mansfeld after admitting chicken thefts ended when they were jailed on October 4. Born January 22 1842 in Green Creek township Sandusky County Ohio he enlisted in the 169th O W I Company B and guarded Washington DC from Rebel attacks at Ft Ethan Allen Virginia. He married Philema Harrington and lived in Huntington Pawnee County Kansas before returning to Huntington then moving to Pittsfield. He leaves two daughters Lena Dirlam Wellington and H T Broyles Pittsfield two brothers Disney Dirlam Pittsfield and Walter Dirlam La Porte. Funeral Friday at 2:00 from the home with Rev F Alton of Cleveland Rev Parker of Wellington and Rev Bucholz of Pittsfield officiating.
