Eisenhower 78th Birthday Marked At Walter Reed

Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower observed his 78th birthday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he recovers from a sequence of heart attacks. A private family party began salute to Eisenhower Week proclaimed by President Johnson as about 200 aides sent birthday telegrams from his administration.

Panama Junta Seeks U S Approval as Power Struggle Intensifies

In Panama the military junta seeks U S recognition while Arnulfo Arias urges supporters to strike and clash with troops. A junta source says the national guard will crush opposition and the United States will have to accept the regime sooner or later. No major anti junta actions seen yet amid tensions. Two guardsmen killed and two civilians wounded in reported sniper fire in slum areas. Washington has suspended relations and may sever them within 48 hours amid the stalemate.

Second sextuplet dies in Britain as survivor in critical condition

Birmingham England Jan Thorns died after surgery to relieve an intestinal blockage. His sister Lynne remained in critical condition after two operations for the same problem. The Birmingham Children's Hospital announced both parents were informed of Tan's death. Mrs. Sheila Ann Thorns had given birth to sextuplets October 2 with one already dying at birth.

Doormen bar Sikh temple entry to ambulance crew

Ambulance attendants were denied entry at a Sikh temple in Wolverhampton yesterday due to a policy requiring shoes be removed, delaying aid for 35 minutes before staff forced entry to evacuate a collapsed woman. UF Industrial Division Leads Lorain County Fund Drive Kickoff

The United Fund of Greater Lorain County opened with a 15.8 percent start and $210 548 from the Industrial Division at a breakfast in Elyria. A $47 000 gift from U S Steel Lorain Works boosted early momentum as Airborne Manufacturing, Ohio Screw Products, and Ternstedt GM divisions topped their quotas. UF officials noted strong early participation and set subsequent reporting dates through October 17 with a Victory Dinner planned for October 24 at Clearview High School.

Cyclist, 9, killed by mother's car

A 9 year old, Larry Wright, was riding from a neighbor’s driveway when struck by a car driven by his mother, Lea Wright. He died at Lodi Community Hospital. The accident occurred about four miles south of Sullivan at 1 50 p m. Mrs Wright was treated for shock and released.
