Conflict Rages Over Ten Mill Proposal In Ohio
Columbus reports deep division over a ten mill tax limitation proposal on the November 7 ballot. Supporters seek to cut the real estate tax rate from 15 to 10 mills, arguing for tax burden equality and relief from confiscatory rates. Opponents warn of ruinous revenue losses for schools, cities, counties, and state services, risking credit and local bond security. Governor White and former Governor Donahey back the measure, while city officials fear further budget cuts.
