Potential imitators can audition October 18 at 2 p.m. at Great Lakes Mall for the Dick Clark show with finals October 19 at 2 p.m. Host Mother Love from WGCL-FM, with Doritos chips sponsorship and WKYC Channel 3 involvement.
Contestants have two minutes to persuade producers for a spot in the second day finals. The one hour finals will be videotaped for later viewing. Each finalist competes for a $25000 top prize, judged on originality appearance and lip sync ability. Travel and hotel accommodations are provided for those selected in Hollywood. Since the premiere two years ago over 10000 acts have auditioned nationwide. Auditions occur in malls fairs and theme parks. Entrants bring self prepared audio tapes may use props costumes makeup and movement.
Anne Estes of MCA-TV says the live concert vibe drew strong crowds at auditions for John Darling entries. Newsweek called the lip syncher show the lip syncher’s Super Bowl while 60 Minutes labeled it the Cabbage Patch Doll or syndicated TV. Entry blanks available at Great Lakes Mall 7850 Mentor Ave with drop off at the mall information booth by Wednesday. Prizes awarded to first second and third place. finalists receive T-shirts. A nationwide contestant hotline 1 800 843 POTH lists official audition dates.

Casts include Katharine Hepburn Laurence Olivier Jeff Bridges and Elvis Presley among others.
