Summit blackout clouds Reykjavik meeting as leaders work on arms

Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev began their second superpower summit in Reykjavik with a four hour talk and orders to continue into weekend. A Soviet official said things look good while U.S. officials withheld progress on a nuclear arms accord. They agreed to form two senior adviser groups, one on arms control and one on humanitarian regional issues, and moved the final session to start earlier.

Bush denies directing secret Contra aid flights

Vice President George Bush said he had no role in directing secret flights dropping arms to the Contras in Nicaragua. He cited meetings with a Cuban-American aid contact, Feliz Gomez, whom he called a patriot, while officials deny coordinating operations.
