Amtrak Superliner Crashes Freight Near Chicago

An Amtrak Superliner passenger train collided with a parked Illinois Central Gulf freight train near an overpass in a Chicago suburb. Two crew members died and 43 were injured, including 13 admitted to hospitals. Engineers and officials from NTSB and NRI investigated. Passengers, including many from Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois, described panic and relief as crews worked to extinguish diesel fuel spills and rescue the injured. The Shawnee service, en route Chicago to Carbondale, carried about 200 passengers.

Federal probes focus on Lorain housing program irregularities

Lorain teachers reach tentative contract deal

Lorain teachers and the Lorain Board of Education resumed talks after Judge Floyd Harris ordered daily 12 hour bargaining sessions to end a six week strike. A ratification vote is planned for 8 p.m. with a union meeting at the Ruse Building.
