Rotarians hear appeals by speaker on Red Cross duties
Miss Ruth Riley from Washington addressed Elyria Rotary Club at the Hotel Newell detailing the Red Cross split between constructive work such as home hygiene life saving and first aid classes with over a million trained since WWI and the Junior Red Cross with seven million children in the nation and 53 other countries. She outlined reconstructive work including disaster relief for storms floods drought and ex servicemen support plus unemployment relief with substantial aid totals. She highlighted Red Cross as a volunteer driven organization and urged support for the upcoming Toll Call, noting Elyria’s share of cotton and cloth distributions. Fire Chief Bates urged fire prevention during Fire Prevention Week reporting historical and recent losses and calling for no-fire week cooperation to reduce per capita losses.
