Venice Notes From a Gondola Amid Grafty Glares
The narrator recalls arriving in Venice via Chiaggia and exploring the Grand Canal by gondola. He contrasts the quiet dawn hush with sudden noise from motor boats and recalls Daniell's palace, a Musset Sand affair, and a waiter who once ushered at Hammerstein. He notes linguistics, a cash sense, and a nightlife rumor of night-time motor racing along the canal.
