The St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Philadelphia Athletics 4 2 in the seventh game at Sportsmans Park. High and Watkins lead a first inning rally, and a third inning homer by Watkins helps seal the Cardinals title ending the A's reign as champions since 1929.
Three hundred women from the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom delivered petitions to President Hoover in the White House East Room urging universal disarmament within a year. The resolutions, signed by 140000 leading women nationwide, pressed the Geneva Disarmament Conference and called for action despite political cautions.
Arthur Frank Nowitz, 12, of 112 East 71st Street Cleveland, identified by parents after a Big Four train wheel killed him near the Faten Belden road. Railroad officials recovered his coat with identifying marks. The boy, a football game attendee from Cincinnati, apparently wandered and fell from the train, authorities say.
Elyria Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary reports surplus canned fruits and vegetables donated by residents inside and outside Elyria. An announcement says donations may be sent to 2223 or 2869, with transport provided to move goods to storage headquarters.

E H A Lowther of Akron, a truck driver, died when another truck driven by Harold Fellows of Cleveland crashed into his vehicle two miles east of Willoughby Ohio on October 10. The incident occurred near Willoughby as the two trucks collided on the road. Local authorities investigated the fatal collision and identified the drivers involved.

William Spencer and Frank Marusa both of Port Huron were bound over to the grand jury under bonds of 1500 each on charges of attempted burglary. They were nabbed at 2 am by Matt Gardner at his Oberlin road gas station after regulators alarmed him from his distant home. Gardner’s alarm monitored the break in and Sheriff Clarence Adams confirmed the incident. Both youths pleaded guilty at arraignment before Justice 8 J George yesterday afternoon.
Washington dispatch reports a grand jury ending its probe into the 1928 campaign actions of Bishop James Cannon Jr. against Alfred E. Smith. The panel will report whether Cannon and political secretary Ada L. Burroughs face indictment on Corrupt Practices Act charges.

John Morrell, 30, a traveling salesman of Jackson, confessed to police that he was the automobile driver who killed Sally Lovett, 15, and seriously injured Dorothy Wood, 14, at Glenroy in Jackson County on Wednesday night. He did not stop after the crash.
Six persons were seriously hurt when a northbound snowplow side swiped a southbound trolley on Main Street in Buffalo New York. About 30 others suffered minor cuts and shock as a fire caused by fallen wires sparked a panic. Victims were treated at Emergency and Sisters of Charity Hospitals.
