City council granted authority for a 924000 garbage contract on August 4. Bids were due Tuesday with five bids submitted. The contract, renewed biweekly for five years, requires a 1000 bond. Beckett is expected to file his bond and the agreement will take effect Monday May.
Carlinville Ill Oct 1 Lester Kahl 24 son of deputy sheriff B A Kahl held in jail after confessing to shooting his bride Margaret 21 missing since Sept 15. A coroner's jury sworn as a coroner investigates the bullet riddled body found in a shallow grave.
The Board of County Commissioners decided to tile Abbey ditch running parallel to Abbey road from the New York Central Railroad under Cleveland Street north for three quarters of a mile. Property owners adjoining the Hitch favored the project. Estimates will be prepared and bids invited.
Sheriff Fred Sells chartered a motor bus to transport fourteen men who pleaded guilty to Richland County grand jury indictments to the Ohio state penitentiary in Columbus. The detainees, many charged with Erie box car robbery, chose the penitentiary over the reformatory. In New York, John W. Davis launched a final campaign drive aiming to win doubtful Middle East states for the Democratic ticket.
The county board of elections reports Blying city registration at 5323 after a gain of 300 names since Oct 2. Yesterday’s total is estimated at 2800 from precincts filing by 1:30 pm. Two days remain for registration Oct 17 and 18 as leaders expect a city record turnout. The initial day saw 1626 men and 987 women register.

Grony Grams reports his residence at 220 Franklin Avenue was ransacked yesterday afternoon while his family was away. A window was broken to gain entry but nothing was stolen. Edward Vastelicea known as Ed Miller, 19, was bound over to the grand jury under $1,000 bond after arrest for robbery at the home of Alfred Cousins on Butternut Ridge. He had purchased a ticket to Chicago at the New York Central depot. his home is listed as Tacoma Washington. Police were also called to untangle a Ford coupe on Broad Street after the driver, W S Hosler of Cleveland, started the car with the steering wheel locked. the car struck a Great Western Oil Co auto and another parked car, causing minor damage to all. A court awarded Black River Lumber Co. of Lorain a judgment of $444.88 against Albina Forst at 1220 West 26th Street Lorain for construction costs of a house in 1921. A Bancops crowd crowded Boyle’s Crockery Store on Broad Street for a sale offering souvenirs, police kept order admitting customers in small groups.
Elyria council approved a traffic ordinance set to take effect Oct 20 and enforce two hour parking in the business district from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and 10 p.m. Saturdays. It bans whistles and sirens except for police fire or sheriff, lowers speeds near schools, sets through streets, and imposes fines from 1 to 200 dollars for various offenses. The measure, tied to pedestrian safety and street car stops, was deemed an emergency action for public welfare.
YMCA members campaign reports 436 memberships with a final eight o'clock tally expected to reach 725 toward the 750 goal. Oscar Dunn’s team led with 29 new members, Dave Hyman’s crew 32, and Tom Moody’s group 22 as workers seek to surpass last year’s totals. An open house for new members is planned for Monday night October 13.
John Washtak sued Mike Glowiski for damages in alienation of his wife’s affections in Common Pleas Court July. The suit was dismissed today after a settlement. Verna Washtak was granted a divorce from John Washtak in Common Pleas Court yesterday. The couple resides in Grafton.
At Langley Field Virginia the T C 2 8 strll dirigible fell to the ground during bombing practice. Lieutenants Bruce N. Martin of San Francisco and Alfred I. Puryear of Hendersonville Tennessee were seriously injured. Three enlisted men were hurt but not seriously. The ship dropped after a mid air explosion.
Republicans in the southern part of Lorain County will stage an old time barbecue in Pittsfield on October 27 with political oratory and roasted ox. Harry L. Davis, a gubernatorial candidate, will be the principal speaker. The event, held in the public park, was delayed by wet weather but plans are now under way.
Julius Coley, 30, black, escaped a Sandusky hospital where he recovered from an appendectomy. Held for Missouri authorities after being charged with attacking a girl in Washington County, Coley reportedly left with his restraints intact and authorities suspect outside help. He feared lynching if returned to Missouri.

In Washington at Griffith Stadium on Oct 10 the seventh game of the world series drew 38,000 as the New York Giants faced the Washington Senators. Harris belted a fourth inning home run guiding the Giants to a decisive victory amid a crowded, tense scene with President Coolidge in attendance. Eugene Fauver on Walan street fell from a ladder while picking apples yesterday and fractured his hip. He was taken to Memorial Hospital and is reported as doing as well as can be expected. Charles McCullough, 20, was arraigned in Judge John A Caldwell's court on a robbery charge. The victim Stephen Myers asked for leniency and offered McCullough a job in his case. Myers explained McCullough acted out of hunger after learning the brother needed money to take to a basket. The court suspended the sentence and released him.
