The Charles Small family of 213 Cluo St. adopted a three week old squirrel found in their yard. Mrs. Small recalls fear at first thinking it was a mouse, then care and feeding challenges followed after a vet visit. The squirrel, named Alvin by Mr. Small, bonds with Muffin the poodle, though housing him remains unsettled.
At a Washington seminar, UPI editors and reporters forecast a fragmented race with no clear majority in the electoral college. Humphrey Wallace Nixon lead forecasts vary. Rene Cassin, a French legal expert born in Bayonne, wins the 1968 Nobel Peace Prize for drafting the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights. The award totals 76,004 dollars with no prize for 1967 added to the general fund. Cassin assisted in formulating the declaration with Eleanor Roosevelt.
AP report from Cape Kennedy details the Saturn 5 rolling to the launch pad for Apollo 7 preparations. The 363 foot rocket carrying Apollo 4 on top will move by crawler to the pad, as Navy Captain Schirra, Donn Eisele and Walter Cunningham ready for an 11 day earth orbit mission.
