Wood carver Volk nets praise for intricate landscapes
South Amherst resident George Volk, 68, turned to wood carving as a hobby about a year ago and now creates detailed pieces from animals to whole landscapes. His German castle and a Holland windmill are standout works, praised by Henry Hunt Clark of the Cleveland School of Art after a Oberlin exhibit. Volk hopes to profit from his carvings as pension funds run out.
