Oberlin College in Oberlin Ohio announces plans for its centennial celebration in fall 1933. A three day program features a two night pageant directed by Thomas Wood Stevens with 700 participants and an open air amphitheatre under tree laden grounds. An alumni meeting and banquet are planned plus religious and musical events if Hall Auditorium is finished. Oberlin traces its founding to 1833 by John J L Schipherd and P L Stewart and has grown from 100 students to about 1600 with early progressive views and racial tolerance.

Packet sinks in Ohio River near Dam 18
A Senator Cordil packet owned by the Pittsburgh Cincinnati Packet Company sank after striking a hidden obstruction near Dam 18 in the Ohio River. No injuries reported and all passengers were rescued. The vessel valued at $40,000 sank in 10 feet of water while en route to Pittsburgh.
