Feighan files bill to protect retirees in bankruptcies

Representative Edward Feighan proposes a new law to require that pension and health benefit commitments to retirees be honored during Chapter 11 reorganizations. The plan targets retirees whose benefits vanish when companies restructure, noting current law permits loss of those benefits. Co-sponsor Dennis Eckart backs the measure, with others showing interest. Feighan stresses the need to shield retirees from being unsecured creditors in bankrupt estates.

Nabakowski alleged a trades council letter supporting Dellisanti was coordinated with wage compliance officer Virgil Muntean, who denied involvement. Muntean claimed no contact about the letter. The letter praised Dellisanti for performing administrator duties beyond the position’s requirements, and trades council leaders said it followed newspaper accounts of Dellisanti’s clashes with Nabakowski.
