Bahamas reviews death sentence delay for Shobek case
A Wisconsin man, Michiah Shobek, 22, escaped execution in Nassau as Bahamian officials granted a 30 day reprieve to review the death sentence. US consul Stephen Vitale said the appeal was accepted after a last minute request by US officials. Shobek, son of a Milwaukee school worker, admitted killing Irwin Borstein, Paul Howell, and Katie Smith, claiming his father ordered it. His mother, Juanita Spencer, had appealed for intervention, saying the reprieve gives her hope.
