A milelong coastal cliff collapse near Oslo toppled houses and cars, burying a loaded bus. Police reported at least six dead and nine injured, with witnesses claiming a seventh buried. A commuter train escaped as chaosblank.

Harry E. Moon of 409 Middle Avenue is named executive vice president for both the mechanical and plastic divisions of the General Industries Company, announced by President and General Manager Allan W. Fritzsche. Moon began at the firm in 1925 and rose through sales and factory roles, becoming sales manager of the entire mechanical division in 1938 and vice president in charge of sales. The article notes his Elyria High School 1916 graduation and longtime service with the company.
U S District Attorney John J Kane Jr says the full story of the Communist conspiracy in Ohio will emerge as eight Ohio party leaders go on trial in Cleveland. The arrests include Joseph Brandt who headed the Ohio Communist Party in Cleveland and was tied to a 1940s informant case. Four defendants remain jailed on 25000 bonds with hearings set for October 20 and possible trials in November or December.

FBI announced the body of six year old Bobby Greenlease, abducted for a $600000 ransom, was found in a shallow grave in St Joseph Missouri. Arrests include Carl Austin Hall and Mrs Bonnie Heady with authorities naming Thomas Marsh as implicated.
C A Olsen announces 1954 Community Chest campaign co-chairs for the schools division Dr Franklin Gottfried will lead city schools Dr Joseph Lehane Catholic schools and C A Gibbons county schools The campaign aims to expose students to community welfare and health programs and foster future leadership. Dr Gottfried Elyria superintendent notes coordination among agencies and the need for joint planning to serve the whole community. He and Dr Lehane and Mr Gibbons bring long local tenures and strong ties to education and civic groups.
Miss Barbara Hilberg a retired Elyria High School algebra teacher died at Shields Rest Home at 9 45 a m today after a period as a patient since July She was born in Birmingham and belonged to First Congregational Church The body is at Sudro Curtis Funeral Home Services arrangements will be announced

The Ohio Sun reports the Supreme Court upheld the counties elections board refusal to place the vote on detaching over 1,500 acres from Avon Village to form a new township called North Avon Township. A 1950 model car driven by Thomas Leszcr, 22, struck newly laid pavement on Route 10 at Lear Nagle Road in Cleveland. The car jumped a 20 inch barrier and landed on a dirt pile. deputy said there was no stop sign or warning of roadwork.
