A sniper in a high rise has held a secretary hostage on Market Street in San Francisco. He fired on crowds during rush hour, claimed to be part of SLA WLO, and demanded 1 million dollars and to speak with the mayor and President Carter. A single non serious injury was reported as police negotiated through the night. The gunman also demanded food and supplies delivered from the rooftop while the hostage was pulled safe.
A Thursday drawing at St. Vincent DePaul Church awards a portable black and white TV to Trixie a two year old spaniel belonging to Richard Fenik of Dellifield Road The owner entered as a joke and plans to move the set between rooms. Officer notes relate to a separate hostage threat by a radical group with an arsenal. A pedestrian was reportedly struck as a gunman fired from Market Street near the Workers Compensation Fund building.
Elyria couple Lawrence Treadwell and Caroline McKinney were found slain in a car on an Akron expressway ramp with multiple gunshot wounds. Akon Detective Dye said suspect William Greathouse, 24, was arrested on aggravated murder and robbery counts. Police found shells, marijuana and a white powder substance in the car. Coroner Kyriakides to rule on death.
Seven years ago 90 Lorain County families moved south when the Koehing Lorain Division relocated to Chattanooga Tennessee. About 1200 local hourly workers lost their jobs.
