Council split on Elyria bridge plan with looming compromise

Elyria City Council remains divided over building one or two bridges over the Black River. Opposition to Turner Block purchase dissolved by city council

Scribner L. Fauver announced there is not enough income tax money to fund the 78 000 Turner Block purchase. Four Democrats had opposed the ordinance, but after a city finances briefing only one councilman remained against it. Reichlin warned he would not sign while the council approved the measure after 10 days. Fauver cited tight 1971 balances, with sanitation needing extra 50 000 and sewer rental fund facing a 110 000 shortfall, offset by highway fund and income tax overages.
