The visit includes anti war demonstrations and three eggs hurled at his limousine near Dublin Castle.
Salaried employees at GM Corp Fisher Body plant on Rt 113 West returned to work with no picket interference by UAW Local 719 after drop of demand for ID cards. Local 780 and 719 negotiators reported some progress in weekend meetings as nationwide GM UAW talks continue with many plants idle and no full agreement yet.
A new grand jury will review evidence on campaign loans and contributions tied to Republican candidates in Franklin County. The July special grand jury was dismissed. the panel will hear testimony starting Thursday, with state treasurer John D. Herbert and deputy Robert Gardner among first witnesses.
A presidential task force condemned the Ohio National Guard for the Kent State University shootings on May 4 calling the four student deaths and nine injuries unnecessary and inexcusable. The 2240 word report urged guardsmen not to issue loaded rifles against peaceful demonstrators and blamed some students for the violence.
Elyria youth Gordon R Childers 19 a 1969 Elyria High School graduate and former football player earned the Bronze Star with V device for valor while serving in Company E 2nd Battalion Airmobile 3rd Infantry in Thua Thien Province. He was wounded in action after repeatedly firing on an enemy bunker complex and remained at his post to provide covering fire before receiving medical care. He plans to enroll at Lorain County Community College in January.
