The Indians' playoff return began and ended the same night as the Rays defeated Cleveland 4-0 at Progressive Field. Cleveland rode a 10-game regular-season finish to a wild-card berth and a home game, then lost in one decisive contest before facing Boston in a best-of-five AL series.
Washington the Capitol remained largely quiet as lawmakers stayed away and tours dwindled while Capitol police maintained guard. Talks between Obama and congressional leaders yielded no end in sight to the shutdown. Pedestrians pass a barricade near the World War II Memorial as visitors withdraw.
A bus trip organized by the Lorain County Office of Aging for nine months to visit Yellowstone Grand Teton and Mount Rushmore was halted Tuesday as a shutdown prevented planned stops. Calvin Woods of Wellington noted the group was disheartened by the cancellation.
Jared Fenik was shot twice in an attack outside 6580 Lake Ave in Elyria Township around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. He and his brother David Fenik were yard work when a disoriented man in a white hooded sweatshirt with an orange stripe approached and asked for a ride. Jared declined and offered to call the Sheriff's Department before the man fled.
