Township man shot on Lake Avenue

Jared Fenik 30 was shot in the upper torso outside 6580 Lake Ave Elyria Township around 11 30 p m Tuesday after speaking with a man outside his home. Neighbors reported hearing two shots and finding Fenik in the driveway as distraught mother Rosie Fenik said she could not cry.

The Senate voted largely along party lines on Monday to defeat the House budget bill. The House earlier passed a budget measure seeking a delay in funding ObamaCare and included other provisions.

The Associated Press reports that during a government shutdown the 532 members of Congress continue to be paid, costing taxpayers $10,583.85 per hour. While lawmakers collect salaries, hundreds of staffers are sent home and tours are halted at the Capitol, affecting constituent services and access.

Freedom ends for man in 1994 Head Start case plea deal

In Lorain County a 60 year old man, Joseph Allen, was taken from court in handcuffs after accepting a plea deal that reimposed a 10 to 25 year prison term with credit for time served. The case involves the 1994 Head Start child molestation charges that originally sent him to life, and co defendant Nancy Smith. Smith accepted a 12 year sentence while Allen’s conviction and acquittals were overturned but he will now serve a new term.

Grafton mayor apologizes for drunken driving arrest

Grafton Mayor Megan Flanigan told the village council she is embarrassed and deeply sorry after a Saturday drunken driving arrest. She faces charges of drunken driving failure to control and leaving the scene after allegedly hitting a fire hydrant at Fox Run and Hunting Hollow near her home. Police say she denied drinking but failed a field sobriety test and refused a Breathalyzer, triggering an automatic license suspension.

Pro gun groups sue Oberlin over park gun ban changes

Ohioans for Concealed Carry Inc. and Ashland residents Brian and Janae Kuzawa filed suit in Lorain County Common Pleas Court challenging five Oberlin firearm regulations. They seek a permanent injunction, arguing city rules conflict with state law. The council amended one park gun ban at a heated Sept. 16 meeting amid warnings from CCW representatives.
