Harold Smiths mark golden wedding with open house
Harold and Elsie Smith celebrate 50 years of marriage with an open house on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at 20 Hayes St Avon. The Avon Lake native and Elsie Walker wed Oct 3 1922. They joined Avon Baptist family life and have a large family including nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr Smith is a longtime Avon Fire Department member and chief.

YSU plans course to help football widows learn the game
Youngstown State University will offer a two week fall course for women to learn football fundamentals. Led by assistant coach Bob Dove with other experts including local game officials, the program covers equipment, rules, plays, and how to discuss football intelligently. The class aims to boost knowledge for mothers, girlfriends, and wives of players or fans.
