Novice G. Fawcett, president of Ohio State University, was elected one of three trustees to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. The election occurred during the AAA annual meeting in Buffalo. New York reports note 1.7 million copies sold of the top 10 nonfiction hardcovers in the U.S. last year.

Avon High to take sixty girls canoeing camping weekend
Avon High School will take sixty tenth to twelfth grade girls on a weekend canoeing and camping trip. Mary Clark the physical education teacher said this is the first such outing in northern Lorain County as part of the program. The group will travel fifty miles south of Loudonville to Mohican River for a two day event with a campfire, and parents are invited to attend.

Ohio teachers offer Perry Local loans to cover payroll
The Ohio Education Association funds interest free loans for Perry Local School District teachers in Lake County after two levies failed. Schools will close October 15 and reopen November 18. Loans cover up to monthly salaries with one year repayment, as district awaits a new 10 mill levy vote on November 5 to resume operations.
