Skunk of the Coast: California Western Steam Train Clips Through Redwoods
In Northspur and along the 40 mile California Western route, the steam powered Skunk carries 120,000 tourists a year and serves isolated retirees along the rugged forest corridor. Henry Manning, 65, finds daily contact as the train stops at Willits, Fort Bragg, and points along the line. Engineers and crews describe a paradox of a slow lumber era relic still rolling through ancient redwoods toward a modern Willits.

Third World BridgeOlympiad leads shift in final boards
After 21 boards in the 80 board final, Italy led the United States by 28 match points, then by 39 as Deal No 22 ended. Forquet and Garozzo misfired a three aces slam while Robinson Jordan pursued six spades for a 350 point team loss. The other table missed a slam in two suits.
