County Crime Lab drug tests eyeing levy and expanded use
Lorain County faces a proposed Crime Lab levy of 495,798 annually on the November ballot to finance broader drug testing for probation and court agencies. If the levy fails, user agencies will still fund per test fees, with 9,000 to 10,000 tests expected in year one at about 50 000 to 60 000 dollars in costs, possibly a shortfall of 10 000 dollars before equipment is paid off. Officials stress the probe into the Probation Department has not halted the lab’s plans and a formal deal may be reviewed next week.
