Avon Man Upends Beauty Sales as Men Join Reps Network
In a shift noted by NPD, women’s skincare sales reach 2.1 billion in 2006 while 13,000 of Avon’s 650,000 U S reps are male. Mary Kay reports 5,738 of 700,000 reps are men. McKinney, a Marine Corps vet, markets to men and women, claiming most clients are men. Sal D’Amico, a Levittown lieutenant, also promotes Avon, boosting family sales to 30,000–50,000 annually. The trend reflects aging baby boomers and changing gender norms in direct selling.
