Physicians' feat restores 7 fingers in Boston operation
A 21 year old man, Michael Bates of Drewsville, had seven fingers reattached by a 44 member team at Massachusetts General Hospital after an iron press accident. The 46 hour two day surgery, longest anesthesia, yielded partial recovery though full use may not return. Bates faced up to two years of therapy with possible further operations.

In Wichita Kansas police reveal Ruth Finley 51 confessed to fabricating alIeged assaults and stabbing herself to create the long running mystery of The Poet.
