Castings For Thew Co To Be Made Here

Everett Johnston, general manager of Thew Shovel Co and production head at Lorain, announced transfer of Lorain Casting Co brass division to the idle forge shop of Universal Jane Co in Elyria for next week production. The move follows a prior fire that destroyed the Lorain brass foundry, with 10 to 15 workers to be hired to cast brass and bronze parts for Thew Shovel Co Locating beside Thew Shovel Co plant in Lorain, the Lorain Castings Co makes Thew castings and some outside work.

October Ninth Legion Officers Joint Installation

Lorain County American Legion Post and Auxiliary units along with Forty and Eight set a joint installation for October ninth in Lorain, moving up from October tenth due to Department Commander Mike Campbell's availability. The event includes a dinner at the Antlers, with about 209 officers to be installed across multiple posts in Lorain Elyria and nearby towns, and is expected to attract over 300 attendees. A separate Elyria Post No. 12 year-end meeting featured a gold Post Commander badge presentation to George L. Tattersall for his administration.

Kiwanians Hear Daddy Allen At Elyria Club Meeting

Elyria Kiwanis Club will host E F Daddy Allen founder and president emeritus of the International Society for Crippled Children as noon speaker at the Hotel Newell. He will discuss work for underprivileged children and the event is led by the club’s underprivileged child committee. Members plan attendance at the sixth Division Inter-Club meeting next Tuesday evening in Cleveland with District Governor Ben Aronson as principal speaker.

Weisman Declares New Deal Policy Unsound at Lorain Dinner

Russel Weisman, Western Reserve University economist and Cleveland writer, told the Lorain Chamber of Commerce annual dinner that New Deal spending is unsound and relief programs are inadequate. He warned that restricting industry and money manipulation tie up business and cited foreign trade losses as a cumulative economic tragedy. Carl D. Friedoli of Cleveland was toastmaster. Contracts Let For Route 20 Jobs

Awards on two state highway improvement projects were made today by State Highway Director John Jaster Jr. The Monroeville grade separation with the NC and W&I E railroads in Huron county and a concrete bridge over the west branch of the Huron River on U S Route 20 in Ridgefield Township were awarded to Beichtler and Hussey of Columbus for 140 356 11 dollars. The same Columbus firm also received the paving contract for the Akron Medina road in Medina county at 189 057 43 dollars.

Elyrian Injured In Automobile Collision

Theodore Weichel 61 of 208 Eastern Heights Blvd sustained a fractured left shoulder when his car tipped on Fourth street near Middle avenue in a collision with a car driven by Mrs. Sarah Ross of Butternut Ridge road. Injury treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital.

Relief Crisis Delayed to October 15 in Lorain County

Lorain County relief operations, set to run out on October 7, were postponed to October 15 after a FERA visit by County Commissioner Oscar G Dunn Major W H Vanoster and relief director Earle Duncan. FERA granted a 4000 extension bringing October relief to 316 000 and 1200 more for administration to November 1 while local plans form.

Six Cars Collide Killing One In Fremont

A six car collision near Fremont tied up traffic heading to a Detroit World Series game. Del M Stevenson, 35, of Jackson, was killed while Elton Ont land, 39 Woodland, and Major J Newson, 39 Roanoke Rapids, were injured. Investigators included Dr D W Philo, the county coroner, and officials from the public utilities commission and motor freight company.

Fitch Elected Chairman of Merchants

Nelson Fitch Jr. was elected chairman of the merchants division of the Elsmra Chamber of Commerce by the executive committee. He succeeds C. C. Fulton who recently resigned. County To Reduce Indebtedness

Lorain county trims bonded debt this week by 27650 and pays 17123 in interest. Treasurer Walter Wishart said the county paid 17000 on principal yesterday and 376.223 interest. The October 1 total due is 344843 on principal and interest, with funds available to meet obligations as bonds and coupons are presented.

Fourth Ward Democrats Plan Meeting for Campaign
