Four Die in Belfast Violence as Rally Protests Parliaments Return
In Belfast four people are killed amid sectarian violence after a Protestant demonstration for restoring Northern Ireland's parliament. A British soldier and a gunman died on New Lodge Road, a sniper killed another soldier in Ardoyne, and a Protestant slain in a Shankill pub while a Catholic man died in a bomb blast. Police say the casualties bring three year tolls to 592 and 588 respectively as riots spread citywide. Shops closed and UDA marches with drums and masks accompanied the unrest as authorities grappled with ongoing security hazards.
