Bitter Cold Traps Navajo in New Mexico Mesas
More than 100 Navajo men women and children remained marooned on wind swept mesas of western New Mexico six days after a severe blizzard broke all time weather records. Eleven perished as survivors reached Gallup exhausted in trucks ponies and some government vehicles. Three Die In Mine Blast Near Logan West Virginia
Three men were killed in a blast at Mine Number Three of the Monitor Coal and Yoke Company near Logan. The explosion flooded the shaft with water after a gas pocket ignited, killing the workers as they entered a new passage beneath a creek.
