Stephen Hopkins at last finds his spot in Providence
The National Society of Colonial Dames of America hung a color portrait of Stephen Hopkins in the little red house he bought in 1742. The display pairs Hopkins with a copy of the Declaration of Independence, replacing a portrait likely of another Quaker. Hopkins, a Rhode Island governor, chief justice, Continental Congress member, and Brown University chancellor, is depicted at the site.
