The Not Forgotten Box in Elyria, wrapped in green with snowflakes, welcomes new toys for needy children co sponsored by CT and the Salvation Army. Donors may give unwrapped toys for any age, and food packages are also provided. The box has a long local history begun by C Russel Stokely in 1956.

Girl dies in Lorain fire trapping toddler in upstairs room

A two and a half year old girl Stacy Price died from smoke inhalation after a fire damaged a Lorain home. Firemen and nine residents were treated for injuries and smoke inhalation. damage estimated at 3500 dollars to the home and 3500 dollars to contents. The blaze started in a couch and cause is undetermined.

Fire destroys Hough and Caldwell Garage in Brighton

Gasoline dripping on a hot light bulb inside a vehicle touched off a fire that destroyed the Hough and Caldwell Garage on Rt. 18. The loss was estimated at 45 000 dollars with building 30 000 and contents 15 000. Firefighters saved hundreds of tires as vehicles and supplies burned.

Grant supports mobile police training unit for LCCC

Pope Paul VI Escapes Knife Attack in Manila

In Manila a Bolivian artist disguised as a priest tried to stab Pope Paul VI with a foot long knife. Aides tackled the assailant and the pope carried on with his Asia tour. The suspect, 35, Benjamin Mendoza y Amor, was arrested and to be charged with attempted murder.
