Lorain Man Robert Gidyvez Dies After Long Illness
Robert Gidyez 21 of Lorain, Kent State student and artist, died at Elyria Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A 1976 Southview High School graduate and National Honor Society member, he majored in political science at Kent State and exhibited paintings in Lorain and in New York and Chicago. Surviving are his parents, siblings, a grandmother, and other relatives. Visitation is set at J.J. Gluvna and Son Funeral Chapel with parish services and burial at Calvary Cemetery.

Oberlin College approves eight percent faculty pay rise
Oberlin College trustees voted at a November meeting to grant faculty and administrative staff an average eight percent salary increase effective January 1, 1980. The boost replaces an earlier planned three percent hike and follows concerns salaries lag behind peer schools. Last April’s raise was seven percent. Tuition guidelines propose a 15 percent increase to about 5400 dollars next year as budget planning continues.

Twelve stolen vehicles recovered from quarry
Lorain County Sheriff's Department divers recovered twelve stolen vehicles from Jaquay Quarry off Jaquay Road in Columbia Township with aid from auxiliary deputies. The haul included two vans, three cars, three pickups, a jeep, two motorcycles and a front car clip, with one late model Cadillac found intact but dumped. Recovery was hampered by 55 foot depths, muck and oil, and resumed after poor weather. Vehicles were stolen from Lorain and Cuyahoga counties. no evidence of dumping by thieves.

Wellington liquor raid sparks night meeting and charges
Wellington Police Chief W Jay Cooper said he will file charges against six people who came to his home about 2 a.m. Sunday after a liquor raid. The night confrontation followed agents entering Timmy's Tavern on Saturday night and a barmaid and a patron were charged. Cooper briefed officers in advance and sought state liquor control presence. He reported a tense scene with threats and a complaint about a patrolman and a former Wellington chief.

A 28 year old Wellington man identified as William Dolan was in critical condition at Lorain Community Hospital after an auto pedestrian collision on Baumhart Road near Ford Motor Co. The accident occurred at 2:30 a.m. Police declined details, saying the case remained under investigation.
