Zoologist studies Geoffrey's tamarins for captive breeding
Cleveland zoologist Carol Skinner has spent four years studying Geoffrey's tamarins to aid breeding at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and the Cleveland Zoological Society. With only about 50 in captivity worldwide, 11 reside at the zoo as researchers note their rainforest habitat in Panama and Colombia. Skinner, funded in part by the Wildlife Fund and Smithsonian, plans a PhD dissertation and the zoo seeks approval from the Species Survival Plan Committee to expand its program.
