The Great Debt Limit Debate Across Congress
A historical column argues extending the national debt limit to 300 billion dollars is likely, with taxes as the only alternative. It questions White House support, labor lobbying, and public tolerance, warning that failure to act could threaten postwar stability and the economy. The piece notes extensive interest costs and calls for courageous leadership to avoid chaos after the war. Also, the Irish Red Cross Society donates 20000 dollars to the International Red Cross for relief purchases.
